Inspiration

The starting point of Yasya Minochkina SS’16 collection is 1970s, fashionistas’ favorite decade of the next season. Travelling to France for work, Yasya Minochkina came across a small bookstore and saw Fashion in the '70s: The Definitive Sourcebook thome. It’s author and famous fashion historian Emmanuelle Dirix describes how fashion was developing in 70s, but not only on a runway but also in the street. Dynamic time mixed such different movements as glamour, hippie, and skateboarding. This contrasts inspired Minochkina to re-create the codes of her own brand in designer’s signature way. There are photos of Joni Mitchell, Cher and Germaine Greer in flared dresses and bright jumpsuits, photos from Biba store ad campaigns and looks from Chloe and Halston runways in Minochkina’s moodboard. But designer decides to make romantic mood, typical for 70s, edgy. Debby Harry signature image helps. Rebelios singer always knew how to wear lingerie slip dresses daily. The final point of Minochkina’s mood is French lavender fields. Colors and shapes of this flower are the main reference to fabrics of SS’16 season. Designer combine all those references with her vision of a wardrobe for modern young women who has busy schedule and doesn’t forget about her appearance.

Lines and shapes

The base of Yasya Minochkina every collection is different dresses. This season there are three main styles. Midi dresses with V-line neck, mesh strap dresses and silk dresses with lush ruffles. Among season’s outerwear are traditional summer coats. Designers offer bright printed shirts (as we saw on Diana Ross) and simple silk cami. Bottoms accompanying them are high-waisted shorts, skirts with ruffles, and flared pants.

Fabrics and colors

Every season designer pays attention to hi tech fabrics. She picks up mesh again but this time it comes with flower patches. This reminds designer of 70s exactly, as handcrafting was really popular that time. Another hi tech material used for the collection is microfiber. Another part of fabrics is 100% natural - it’s reversible striped cotton and silk. Key season’s pastel is warm, as flowers in the South of France: red, pink, canary, mixed with bright green and blue. The accent is tie dye-like neon in details.

Details

Minochkina doesn’t like to reload clothes with unnecessary details and tends to make her minimalistic and clean. SS’16 collection is not an exception but there’s a place for 1970s signatures. Bright contrast collars, lapels and cuffs then worn by Marie Osmond and Margaret Thatcher.
